Chicken Soup

Naomi makes the best chicken soup. We've both been down with colds this week, thankful for the wood stove, wood to burn, and each other.

Leaf Hopper

I'm aiming at getting shapes to transition light to dark. (about the number 5 of this subject) A little smoother than the rest, and more fun to do. Getting the blend to work while the acrylic paint is wet is important because it all gets darker as it dries. So I'm working in an alla prima technique, taking a new canvas rather than trying to touch things up.

First Quarter Cup

There's a halve moon up tonight, made me think of the green inside of the cup. I'm finding new ways of moving wet paint around. I like how the "flow aid" makes acrylic handle a little more like oil color.

Gold Rings

the paint seemed to be more cooperative today,which is nice. I used a wetting agent and that helped too. I think that if I can get one thing right in a painting it's sometimes enough.

Two Cups

All I can do some days is to make the effort. Sometimes I'm happy with the results, other times I'm just glad I tried.

Field Sunflowers 2

Color is still the most fun thing about painting. One thing I'm trying to do is see the color in shadows, and also to keep the colors in harmony.

I will usually learn something new with each painting . Sometimes I'm looking to discover something specific, and the painting is setup with that goal in mind. Other times you just take the lesson that comes.

Wooden Toucan

I thank some sculptor that made this. there aren't many toucans on the Idaho prairies. This one appears to be checking out his shadow.
